Strong first half propels St. Edward by Rosary
St. Edward took control in the first half and snapped a 2-game skid with a 63-46 Suburban Christian Conference victory over Rosary in Aurora.
The Green Wave attacked from the opening tip and took a 20-9 lead through one quarter. They led 33-18 at the half.
“We had good intensity,” St. Edward coach Michelle Dawson said. “We forced a lot of turnovers.”
Callie Johnson finished with 17 points and Mary Kate Nastali and Alexandria Lee both scored 14 points to pace St. Edward (6-2).
St. Ignatius 40, Streamwood 32: The Sabres outscored St. Ignatius 18-16 in the second half, but they were unable to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit in a nonconference loss in Chicago.
“It was a very tough, physical game,” Streamwood coach George Rosner said. “We never led or caught up in the game. You’ll never win games when you only make 7 field goals.”
Streamwood made 17 of 19 free-throw attempts.
Hannah McGlone scored 2 points, buoyed by 10-of-10 free-throw shooting, and Jessica Cerda scored 9 points for Streamwood (3-4).
Johnsburg 46, Crystal Lake South 42: The Gators saw their modest 2-game win streak busted by the visiting Skyhawks in a Fox Valley Conference crossover despite an 18-point performance by senior guard Stephanie Melone. Kayla Peterson had 7 points and Sara Mickow added 6 points for CL South (2-6).
