Taylor paces Grayslake Central's first win
Jordan Taylor scored 20 points, and Grayslake Central's boys basketball team got its first win of the season Friday.
The Rams had five players score in double figures in their 77-59 win over Brooks Academy in the Mundelein Thanksgiving tournament.
Casey Boyle added 16 points for Grayslake Central (1-2), while Savonte McWilliams had 14, including a pair of 3-pointers. Tyler Smith and Sean Geary chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Rams, who led 19-13 after one quarter, 32-24 at halftime and 55-44 after three.
Grayslake Central wraps up the tournament Monday with a 4:30 p.m. start against Barrington.
Carmel 47, Prairie Ridge 29: At Crystal Lake Central, the Corsairs earned their first win, as Ian Kristan's 12 points led a balanced attack. Zennen Davis-McKennie added 9.
Wauconda 65, Richmond-Burton 48: At Richmond-Burton, the Bulldogs showed no grogginess in their 9 a.m. game.
Kyle Ryan scored 26 points, sinking four 3-pointers, and also came up with 10 steals.
Wauconda (1-2) also got 8 points apiece from Matt Mead (3 blocks) and Connor Rueb (7 rebounds). Keith Blomberg added 7 points and 6 steals.
Northridge Prep 62, Vernon Hills 54: At Northridge Prep, Jarrett Wood scored 16 points for the Cougars. while Trent Fulton had 10.
Darren Hoveydai scored 9 points for Vernon Hills.
Rockford Jefferson 50, Grayslake North 48: At Johnsburg, the Knights suffered their first loss.
A.J. Fish scored 16 points to lead Grayslake North (2-1), which trailed 36-28 after three quarters. Ben Guhl had 12.
Girls basketball
Stevenson 44, McAuley 37: Katie Batman scored 10 points, Stevenson's girls basketball team outscored Mother McAuley 14-1 in the third quarter, and the Patriots won 44-37 in Maine West's Tipoff Classic Friday.
"It was a great team effort," Stevenson coach Tom Dineen said. "We had an outstanding third quarter.
Stevenson (2-1, 2-0) also received 9 points from Kari Moffat and 8 apiece from Alex Elzinga and Julia Dabrowski. Batman drained the Patriots' only 3-pointer.
Stevenson plays Crane at 11 a.m. today.
Round Lake 46, Milwaukee Academy of Science 19: The Panthers earned the nonconference road win, as Aaliyah Chastang scored 12 points.
Round Lake (3-2) also got 8 points from Adriana Pitts and 7 from Bianca Mahoney.
Grayslake Central 49, Westinghouse 34: At Buffalo Grove, Skyler Jessop scored 22 points and Morgan Dahlstrom added 16 for the Rams (2-2), who conclude the tournament today with an 11 a.m. tipoff against Barrington.
Providence 56, Antioch 28: At Geneva, Megan Borries scored 11 points, sinking three 3-pointers, and also had 8 rebounds for the Sequoits.
Providence went on an 11-0 run to lead 26-17 at halftime.
Paige Gallimore had 3 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists for Antioch (0-3), and Lindsey Gofron scored 7 points.
The Sequoits play twice today, as they face Morgan Park at 9 a.m. and Oswego at 2 p.m.
