Last year: 13-15, 2-10, seventh in the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division; lost 57-51 to Niles North in the Class 4A Glenbrook North regional semifinals.

Scouting report: Finishing halves and games is key for a Lancers team that in 2010-11 was outscored by only 0.1 point on average and lost just four games by more than 10 points. Three-year starter Spencer, who averaged 13.8 points and 6.2 rebounds last season, comes off a solid summer and can score inside and out after playing both guard and forward his first two years. The 6-6 Wagner and 6-7 Karlis return playing time and size, but after graduating perimeter threat Eric Eichholz the Lancers need an outside shooter and secure ballhandling by players like Zanghi and Wilson against tough UEC pressure. Three years of experience under Virostko hopefully lends greater familiarity with his system as well as greater closing ability. “We can be competitive in every game,” the coach said.
