Scouting Addison Trail boys basketball

Addison Trail

Coach: Brendan Lyons.

Last year: 8-18, 2-10, sixth in West Suburban Gold; lost 70-57 in Class 4A Willowbrook regional quarterfinals.

Top players: James Pupillo, so., G; Vince Beltrano, sr., G; Ricky Diaz, sr., G; Varinder Kalsi, sr., G; Tyler Little, sr., F; John Conrad, sr., F.

Scouting report: A major point of off-season emphasis came on defense after the Blazers allowed more than 60 points a game last year. Lyons believes a bunch more wins can come Addison Trail's way if it can cut that number by 10 points. A bigger and more athletic roster is a good base for improvement. Pupillo returns after starting as a freshman and averaging 9 points, and he'll be a handful at both backcourt positions. He's joined by Beltrano, who led the team in assists last season. Diaz, at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, is a solid post presence with experience. If the Blazers can get solid contributions from six juniors who helped last season's sophomore team win three of its last four Gold games, they'll be in good shape. "We need to be an unselfish, smart, hardworking team," Lyons said.
