Support for women dealing with cancer

DUPAGE COUNTY—Spanish-speaking women who are battling cancer are invited to a free beauty workshop from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov 17, at the DuPage County Health Department. The event is sponsored by the DuPage County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Beauty experts will teach participants how to cope with the temporary side effects of hair loss, skin changes and fatigue. Each participant will also receive a free $250 make-up kit full of brand-name products.

The event is called “Look Good…Feel Better” and is limited to 12 women. The evening gives women a chance to think about something positive and something other than cancer. Wigs will also be provided to women who need them. The event also allows women to share their feelings with other women going through similar experiences.

The event is only open to Spanish-speaking women who are undergoing cancer treatment or have completed treatment within the past six months. There are no income or citizenship restrictions.

Additional workshops may be scheduled if there is enough interest. Participants may bring along a friend who will not receive the beauty treatment or gift.

Register for the free workshop by calling the Health Department at (630) 682-7400. For information on Look Good...Feel Better and other free services available for cancer patients, call the American Cancer Society at (800) 227-2345 or visit www.illinoiscancerhelp.org.
