Halloween prank puts Cary-Grove in lockdown
A Halloween prank early Monday forced Cary-Grove High School in Cary, into a lockdown for more than an hour.
Jeff Puma, Crystal Lake High School District 155 spokesman, said the “code yellow” was issued about 8:45 a.m. and was lifted at 10 a.m. School officials refused to provide any details about the prank Monday afternoon. But a student at the school told the Daily Herald that surveillance cameras caught the prankster in action.
“We didn’t get much information but after three periods they let us go,” said Chris Henning, a 17-year-old senior at the school.
Neither Cary police nor the district would confirm what the prank involved.
Puma said the yellow level indicates that administrators and public safety officials did not perceive a danger to students and staff.
The student responsible for the prank has been identified.
