St. Edward, Harvest, Hampshire win regional openers

The St. Edward girls volleyball team opened the Class 2A South Beloit regional Monday night with a 25-11, 25-7 win over North Boone.

Katie Swanson had 7 kills, 2 aces and 4 digs for the Green Wave, while Callie Johnson added 3 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces and 3 digs. Rena Rannal (3 kills, 4 assists, 6 digs), Mallory Gross (2 aces, 16 assists, 5 digs), Allison Kruk (2 aces, 10 digs), Sarah Norman (3 kills, 4 aces, 8 digs) and Cory Kelly (2 kills, 3 blocks) also contributed to the win.

St. Edward (19-13) played without senior setter Katie Ayello (finger injury), but she is expected back tonight when the Green Wave take on top-seeded Winnebago in the semifinals.

At Harvest Christian: Sydney Doby had 5 kills and 3 digs and Eric Manusos added 4 kills as Harvest Christian defeated Faith Lutheran 25-11, 25-7 in the opening round of the Class 1A Harvest Christian regional. Sarah Kott and Kali Cramer (7 assists) each had 3 kills for the Lions and Katelyn Floyd contributed 6 assists and 3 digs. Harvest will take on Hinckley-Big Rock in today’s semifinals. In Monday’s first match, Alden-Hebron ended Elgin Academy’s season, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15. Bridgette Keslinke had 11 kills and 11 digs for the Hilltoppers (13-13), while Claire Fluegel had 13 kills and 8 digs. Angie Martinez added 26 assists. Alden-Hebron faces Westminster Christian in today’s semifinals.

Hampshire d. Genoa-Kingston: Jenny Dumoulin and Michelle Dumoulin each had 4 kills and Kelly Meathe added 9 digs to lead the Whip-Purs to a 25-15, 25-19 win at the Class 3A Sycamore regional. The Whip-Purs (11-25) will take on top seed Crystal Lake Central in today’s semifinals.
