Jacobs happy with FVC finish
Kevin Christian had every reason to smile.
The Jacobs boys cross country coach watched with great delight as his Golden Eagles finished a solid third with a score of 82 points at Saturday’s Fox Valley Conference meet at Veterans Acres in Crystal Lake.
William Hennessy led the Golden Eagles with a fifth-place finish in 16:56.6. Ryan Ross placed 12th, followed by Trevor Tschosik (17th), Matthew Goldby (22nd) and Patrick Nerja (26th).
“The boys ran awesome,” said Christian. “We have such a young team and I have been patient with this group. But today we had a very good day.”
Prairie Ridge, led by individual champion Mitch Wilkins, won the conference title with a score of 40 points while McHenry placed second with a score of 79.
Grayslake Central, led by a third-place finish from Will Brewster, was fifth with a score of 101.
Brewster, who has missed the last month with shin splints, covered the 3 mile course in a time of 16:48.4
“I did some bicycle work during the month off from running, but I just needed to rest,” said Brewster. “I feel fine now and felt I ran well today.”
Crystal Lake South, with Duncan Henderson placing 14th, was sixth with a score of 182. Cary-Grove finished seventh with a score of 215. The Trojans’ top finisher was Dustin Throw with a ninth-place finish.
Huntley, paced by a 25th-place effort from Trevor Obecny, was ninth with 245 points.
Dundee-Crown placed 11th with a score 296 points. Dillon Muscat was the only Charger to crack the Top 50 with a 49th place finish.
Hampshire, 12th, scored 320 points. The Whip-Purs’ top runner was Ross Seaton with a 34th place finish.
Grayslake North finished 13th and got a 48th place finish from Matt Kendzior.
