More than 170 join in Vernon Hills YMCA first 5K

More than 170 people ran or walked in the Central Lake YMCA's first 5K Oct. 1.

Designed to be non-competitive for those who just wanted to say they did a 5K, the race was the perfect venue for many families who jogged along the trails together. Other runners ran the course quickly.

Volunteers from Rosalind Franklin University helped guide participants and keep them on track.

Getting in shape is easy at the Y. Whether you're in the market for family swim lessons, on-stage drama class, adult or kids boot camp, martial arts, a little chef's class, chess academy, or even a parents' night out, the Y has it. Fall registration takes place now through Oct. 16.
