5 Waukegan YMCA swimmers qualify for finals in first meet
The Northern Lake YMCA Seahorse swim team splashed into their new season Oct. 9 at a dual meet against the Hasting Lake YMCA Stingrays at Hasting Lake YMCA in Lindenhurst.
“It was a very good first meet,” Head Coach Mike Hewitt said. “We had several new swimmers place high in their events. Several of our veterans ‘aged-up' to new age brackets and also had a good showing.”
Five swimmers achieved District Championship qualifying times for 11 events. The champion meet will be held next March in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
Registration for the 2011-12 season is still open. Stop by the Y in Waukegan Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for more information or visit www.seahorseswimming.org. The Lake County Family YMCA swim program, including the Seahorse and Turtles competitive teams, is well-rounded in that it also includes fundraising, volunteering and social responsibility development.
