Vernon Hills wins Lakes regional

Chris Edwards fired a 5-over 76, earning medalist honors and leading Vernon Hills’ boys golf team to the championship of the Class 2A Lakes regional at Antioch Golf Club on Tuesday.

Vernon Hills (316) also counted the rounds of Jake Zoll (78), Eric Swanson (80) and Alex Leigeber (82).

Runner-up Lakes (328) and third-place Grayslake Central (342) also advanced to Monday’s Wheaton Academy sectional at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles.

Lakes was led by John O’Connor’s 79. Logan Edwards shot an 81 for the Eagles, while Jake Bathery had an 83 and Matt Hirsch an 85.

Grayslake Central was paced by Kyle Balling (82), Tanner Hermes (83), Dan Reed (86) and Dan Choi (91).

Antioch (348, fifth) got through Grant Smith (81) and Avery Cielek (82). Wauconda (364, eighth) saw Trevor Middleton (85) and Luke Bernard (88) extend their seasons.
