Highland Park Players present 'Bye Bye Birdie'

The Highland Park Players is proud to present one of the most captivating shows of our time, the ultimate feel-good musical, "Bye Bye Birdie."

The local production will include nine performances, running from Oct. 21-30. Performances will be held at the Northbrook Theater, 3323 Walters Ave. in Northbrook.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $19 online at www.HighlandParkPlayers.com or at the West Ridge Center, 636 Ridge Road in Highland Park, or at the door for $20.

Set in the world of soda fountains and "getting pinned," Elvis and The Ed Sullivan Show, this Tony Award-winning musical turns a small Ohio town upside down when the hip-thrusting superstar Conrad Birdie visits for his farewell television appearance and to give "one last kiss" before induction into the army. Filled with classic songs like "Put on a Happy Face" and "The Telephone Hour," the show is certain to entertain audiences of all ages.

“We chose to produce Bye Bye Birdie because it's a classic American story about change, growing up, letting go, and moving on,” explained Bradley A. Rose, executive producer. “It's full of themes that we can all relate to today. The story reminds us of days when teenagers were innocently in love with rock stars, parents wanted nothing more than to protect their children, and adults wanted more out of their lives.”

The cast members of Highland Park Players' production of Bye Bye Birdie are from the northern suburbs, Chicago and beyond. They range in age from 8 to 86, and according to director Bradley Kisner, they have the ability to find the comedy in the story, while allowing the audience to experience a piece of American history.

The performance schedule is:

October 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at 8:00 p.m.

October 22 and 29 at 4:00 p.m.

October 23 and 30 at 2:00 p.m.

Directed by Bradley Kisner and musical direction by David Belew, this local production of Bye Bye Birdie will share familiar songs and simpler times with its audiences. The dance numbers, choreographed by Peter Rasey, are youthful and fun and will leave people yearning for an old fashioned sock hop.
