COD offers 'Messages of Hope' for women Oct. 10
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, College of DuPage will host “Messages of Hope – A Free Community Conversation on Breast Cancer Awareness for Women” on Monday, Oct. 11.
Registration and networking begins at 6 p.m., with the program starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Health and Science Center, Room 1234, at the College's main campus in Glen Ellyn.
Participants will receive information about early detection, prevention methods and the latest resources available to enhance a woman's chances of breast cancer survival. The event will also feature a MAMMACARE® Breast Exam Workshop.
Free refreshments, parking and a game room for children are also available during this event. Participants must register themselves and their children by Thursday, Oct. 6, at rsvp.aalr@email.com.
Event sponsors include College of DuPage, AARP, African American Leadership Roundtable, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority - Chi Sigma Omega Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - Glen Ellyn Area Alumnae Chapter, and the West Towns Chapter of the Links, Inc.
Breast cancer is the single leading cause of cancer-related death for women ages 40 to 49 in the U.S. This event seeks to heighten awareness about breast cancer – a disease that disproportionately affects the African-American community. Although fewer African-American women are diagnosed with the disease, they are statistically twice as likely to die from breast cancer as compared to Caucasian women.
