Prairie Ridge blanks Dundee-Crown
Talk about two high school football programs going in totally different directions.
Prairie Ridge, which lost to the eventual Class 6A champions in the semifinals the last 2 years, is geared toward making a run at a state championship while Dundee-Crown is just trying to win a game.
The Wolves showed why they are one of the most powerful teams in the state, pummeling the outmanned Chargers 55-0 in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action In Crystal Lake Friday night.
"We are certainly programs in different spots," said Prairie Ridge coach Chris Schremp. "We think we have something special here while (D-C coach) Vito (Andriola) is trying to turn things around. We came out fast with great focus."
Scoring on their first 5 possessions which included a 28-point first quarter. The Wolves led 41-0 at intermission.
It was a Jordan Getzelman show for the Wolves (4-0, 2-0) in the first half.
The talented junior rushed for 80 yards which included touchdown runs of 55, 5 and 15 yards.
\Getzelman also grabbed 3 passes for 44 yards including a 21-yard touchdown pass from Nick Nissen as time expired in the first half.
"Jordan is a very talented kid who has many different skills," said Schremp. "We can use him in the run game and he is a deep threat in the passing game."
Getzelman is pleased to be a large component of the Prairie Ridge.
"It is fun to be in this offense," said Getzelman. "We can run the ball and we can throw the ball. Nick threw some great passes. The offensive line is awesome. They open huge holes which is easy to run through. We had a good week of practice and were ready to play."
Nissen, who completed 6-of-11 passes for 154 yards and 2 TD passes, also threw a 51-yard scoring strike to Nick Margiotta.
Connor Greenwald, who connected on 7 of 8 extra points, toted the ball 3 times for 83 yards which included a 59-yard run.
The PR defense, which hasn't allowed a touchdown all season, was just as impressive.
Dundee-Crown (0-4, 0-2) managed only 3 first downs, 1 in the first half and 55 total yards.
Matt Reedy was the Chargers' top rusher with 47 yards on 15 carries. Junior Garrett Ryan, who was under pressure from PR's vaunted defense, completed 2-of-11 passes for 18 yards.
"We are just not a good football team," said D-C coach Vito Andriola.
