Community Awareness Fair to be held Oct. 1 at COD

The Community Awareness Fair will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, at College of DuPage, featuring information on topics ranging from health to finance as well as free health screenings and document shredding.

The free event, presented by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Lambda Alpha Omega Chapter in partnership with College of DuPage, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Resource Center, Room 2800.

“Our objective is to assemble in one venue key agencies and community organizations that provide human services,” said Cynthia Johnson, Community Development specialist at College of DuPage. “By doing so, we create convenient access to this information, as people have limited time and often cannot travel from place to place to find what they need.”

During the fair, participants can take part in free health screenings, learn more from the American Cancer Society and speak with representatives from COD's Dental Hygiene, Nursing and Human Services programs. The Emerging Young Leaders program will present a high school steppers show, while donations of coats, gloves, hats and socks will be accepted for local organizations. Information booths, free document shredding from 9 a.m. to noon, financial planning for college, demonstrations and other activities will round out the event.

“College of DuPage offers reduced-fee and free services that people may not be aware of, such as dental screenings through our Dental Hygiene program and career counseling,” Johnson said. “People can also find out about our quality, affordable education. There will be something valuable for everyone at the Community Awareness Fair.”
