All-American Apple Pie

2 refrigerated piecrusts (see note)

¾ cup sugar

¼ cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon apple-pie spice (see note)

Dash salt

3 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons butter, melted

Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)

Heat the oven to 425 degrees.In a large zipper-top bag, place the sugar, flour, spice and salt. Add the apples; close and shake to coat well. Set aside.In a 9-inch pie plate, place one crust evenly over the plate and press into the plate. Add the coated apples, and drizzle melted butter over them. Cut the second crust into strips, and weave a lattice top. See kitchenscoop.com for photos of the process. Crimp the edges, and place in a preheated oven.Bake 35-40 minutes, until the crust is flaky and golden brown. Remove from the oven, and let cool for 10 minutes before serving with ice cream, if desired.Serves six.Cook#146;s notes: For testing purposes, I used Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crusts.
