Assurance Agency helps Humanitarian Service Project feed the kids

The Assurance Agency, Ltd., of Schaumburg graciously donated $4,000 to help needy children in the DuPage and Kane counties through the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Feed the Kids Project. The company has been an enthusiastic contributor to HSP since 2008 and over the years they have not only helped out with monetary donations, but also by providing volunteers for wrapping and food sorting.

The Assurance Agency, Ltd., was named ”Best Place to Work in Illinois” by The Daily Herald Business Ledger. The agency has grown into one of the largest independent insurance brokerages in the country and recently they have announced that they will be opening a new satellite office in Chesterfield, Missouri.

The Assurance Agency employees created the Assurance Caring Together (ACT) program that strives to inspire hope in the communities where employees live and work. Through the ACT program, each employee is encouraged to use one paid work day per year to volunteer their time in helping a charity. Assurance employees donated a total of 1,800 volunteer labor hours to 10 charities located in the Chicagoland area, and HSP is very grateful for all their donations and their interest in helping with their Feed the Kids Project. Karole Kettering, the executive director of the HSP, said “We are thrilled that Assurance has devoted so much effort in helping us out! Their donations are much appreciated not only by our organization, but to the deserving needy children that their contributions are supporting.”

Assurance's donation will help fund the HSP's Feed the Kids Project which fills the nutrition gap for low- income children when school is out for the summer. These children, who receive the majority of their daily nutrients from federally subsidized meals at school through the School Breakfast Program and National Lunch Program, experience a drastic reduction in nutrition during the summer months and often go hungry. By providing their families with a total of 750 pounds of food in June, July, and August, the Feed the Kids Project is able to relieve the hunger and stress that these needy children face. Each food package contains nutritious, vitamin-rich foods - 9 varieties of fresh vegetables, 9 selections of fresh fruits, 7 selections of frozen meats, at least four 25-pound boxes of non-perishables, and child-friendly healthy snacks.
