Dist. 33 Foundation announces scholarship raffle winner
The Foundation for Educational Excellence for West Chicago Elementary School District 33 is pleased to announce the winner of the scholarship raffle drawn on Thursday, May 5.
Julie Gomez of West Chicago won the scholarship. Only 178 tickets were sold this year - the $1,780 scholarship reflects the gross receipts of $3,560 being split between the winner and the foundation according to the prize rules. Deb Ramsey, also of West Chicago, won the second prize of a $500 savings bond donated by DuPage National Bank.
Proceeds will benefit the Foundation for Educational Excellence. The Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization formed in 1988 governed by a Board of Trustees made up of leaders from local businesses and the community, and District staff. Its mission is to acquire and distribute financial and other resources to West Chicago Elementary School District 33 for enrichment programs and other projects aimed at enhancing the quality of education and providing students and staff extended learning opportunities. More than $75,000 has been given to classroom teachers in the form of mini-grants through the Foundation's fundraising efforts. In addition, the Technology Center at the middle school, the Computer Writing Center, Artist and Technologist in Residence Programs, 60 notepad computers for the middle school and the "Read Under the Trees" summer reading program have all been funded thorough the Foundation.
