Bauch, Cavin key Conant past Hoffman Estates

Senior Allie Bauch and sophomore Miranda Cavin each hit a homer and a double to help lead Conant’s softball team to a 14-4 victory over visiting Hoffman Estates in five innings Tuesday.

Bauch (3-for-3) had a pair of RBI. Cavin collected 3 RBI while going 2-for-3.

Senior Kailee Pasbrig (3-0) notched the win for the Cougars (22-1, 11-1) who retained their 1-game lead over Fremd (21-2-1, 10-2) in the Mid-Suburban West.

The two teams square off today in Hoffman Estates at 4:30 p.m.

Other top hitters for the Cougars were Paige Ward (2-for-3, 2 RBI, triple), Rachel O’Malley (2 RBI, double) and Hilary O’Donnell (double, RBI).

Emily Fett (home run, RBI) and Kelsey Pellus (double, RBI) each went 2-for-3 for the Hawks (5-18-1, 2-9).

Fremd 8, Schaumburg 7: After Fremd’s Janelle Schneider drew a one-out walk, pinch runner Kristy Salerno stole second, took third on Allie Gaeding’s groundout and came home on a wild pitch for the decisive run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Schaumburg (11-9, 5-7) had tied the game at 7-7 in the top half of the inning when Alyssa Lancaster belted her second home run of the game.

Junior Rachel Doering (11-1) pitched the final 2 innings to notch the win.

Michelle Mazur, who belted a 2-run homer, and Sara Untiedt (double) each went 2-for-3 for Fremd (21-2-1, 10-2), while teammates Megan Horn and Caitlin Patenaude also had hits.

Top hitters for Schaumburg were Brianne Lingl (3-for-4, double), Lancaster (3-for-3, 2 home runs, 5 RBI) and Rebecca Thompson (1-for-3, RBI, double).

Saxons junior Renee Kakareka (6-3) threw a 6-hitter with 4 strikeouts.

Prospect 12, Wheeling 1 (5 innings): Prospect’s Mary Liberty celebrated her 16th birthday by throwing a 2-hitter for her first varsity win in 5 decisions.

The host Knights (5-20, 2-11) scored 9 runs on 7 hits in the bottom of the third inning to build an 11-1 lead as Mary Styzek (2-for-4) had a 2-run single and Nikki Surico also singled in 2 runs and scored twice in the inning.

Catcher Nicole Naranjo helped the Knights end the second inning when she tagged out a runner at home and then threw out a runner trying to steal on the next play.

Cassie Poulos (3-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Hanna Lythberg (1-for-3) helped the Knights score twice in the second inning.

Sejal Shah and Kaitlyn DeBusk had the hits for the Wildcats (5-13, 0-11).

Buffalo Grove 4, Hersey 2: Senior Maria Dax (10-9) struck out four and tossed a 4-hitter for visiting Buffalo Grove (11-12, 4-8).

Senior Andrea DiPrima (2-for-4) belted a solo homer in the seventh inning for the Bison, while KC Dunne had a double and Jessie Lazzara was 2-for-3.

BG’s Danni Shapiro and Sara Penelle also had hits.

Junior Alex Tinaglia was 2-for-3 for Hersey (7-15, 4-8), while Haley Henriksen and Mallory Eichhorn each had 1 hit.

Maine West 20, Highland Park 0: Maine West (14-9, 8-1) clinched a share of its fifth Central Suburban North title in 10 years under coach Mike Murin.

Sophomore Gina Larucci (2-for-4, 4 RBI), junior Angela Cruz (2-for-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBI) and junior Caroline Baird (2-for-3, 3 RBI, double) were among eight Warriors who had 2 hits.

Host Maine West exploded for 13 runs and 12 hits in the first, sending 18 batters to the plate.

Sophomore Brie Montmarquette had a homer for West and senior Nicole Mavraganis added a double.

Sophomore Ariel Valles (12-7) threw a 4-hitter for the win.

The Warriors can clinch the CSL North outright with a win at Glenbrook North on Thursday.

Leyden 17, Young 3: Moira Quinlan (4-for-4, home run, 2 RBI), Morgan Maize (2-for-4, 2 home runs), Amanda Moran (home run) and Michelle Sansone (home run) led the offense for visiting Leyden (19-5).

Winning pitcher Hannah Seymore (2-2) threw a 5 hitter with 4 strikeouts.
