Carmel Catholic’s baseball team went on the offensive Saturday.

The Corsairs swept an East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader, pounding Benet Academy 20-0 in five innings and 11-1 in six.

Brian Serio went 4-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI, and Tim Hendricks was 3-for-3 with 3 doubles and 2 runs in the opener. Tommy Ryan homered, singled, knocked in two and scored twice. The other offensive contributors included John Salvi (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Jimmy Ryan (3-for-4, 3 runs, RBI), JC Pawlak (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Blake Busca (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 runs).

Daniel Mooney earned the win.

Tommy Ryan homered again in Game 2 and finished 3-for-3 with 2 double, 3 RBI and 2 runs. Jimmy Ryan was 3-for-4, and Serio went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI.

Hendricks notched the win, as Carmel improved to 13-10 and 7-5 in the ESCC.

Libertyville 6, Warren 2: The visiting Wildcats avenged Friday’s North Suburban Lake Division loss, as Joey Eichmann went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI.

Davis Ogilvie earned the win for Libertyville (14-9, 5-5).

Warren (15-9, 5-3) got a home run from Cal Haley and a 3-for-3 effort from Ryan Kennedy.

Wauconda 10, Vernon Hills 0: Jeremy Wagner pitched a 2-hit shutout with 3 strikeouts, as the Bulldogs (11-8, 6-2) moved into a first-place tied in the North Suburban Prairie with Antioch and Lakes, which split a doubleheader Saturday.

Vernon Hills freshman Pat Crowley suffered his first loss.

Vernon Hills 6, Ridgewood 2: Playing its second game of the day on their home field, the Cougars bounced back from a loss to Wauconda by winning the nonconference game.

Smith Donelon made the most of his Senior Day opportunity by allowing only 2 runs over 5 innings for the win, and Tyler Coppney hit a towering 2-run homer into the wind.

Chris Marras got Vernon Hills on the board in the first with an RBI single. Chris Argianas’ two-out triple pushed the lead to 3-0, and John Foley’s RBI groundout added to the lead in the third.

Lake Forest 9, Lake Zurich 6: The visiting Scouts broke open a 3-1 North Suburban Lake game in the fifth by scoring 4 runs and went on to snap the Bears’ three-game winning streak.

Mark Dorfman homered for Lake Zurich (8-14, 2-6), and the Bears got 2 hits apiece from Jeremy Reusch (double, 2 RBI), Sean Eder (RBI) and Ben Gullo (double, RBI).

Lake Forest got 3 hits, including 2 doubles, from Zachary Lucas. Chris Godinez (double), Jack Wold and Brett Bartuch (double, 4 RBI) each had 2 hits for the Scouts, who avenged Friday’s loss.

Lake Zurich starter Mike Schnur pitched into the fifth.

“I was proud of the way the kids played this week,” Bears coach Gary Simon said. “We made enormous improvement at the plate and in the field.”
