Huntley sweeps doubleheader: The Red Raiders (9-9) earned a 4-3 victory over Rockford Guilford in Game 1 and handled them 19-6 in five innings in Game 2. Tara Lycos (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI) and Kelsey Hagan (2-for-3, double, RBI) each drove in runs to lead Huntley while Brittany Koss turned in a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate with a walk in Game 1. Taylor Larson (7-7) earned the complete-game victory as she allowed just 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 11.
In Game 2, Randi Peterson (1-for-2, 2 walks) and Tara Lycos (1-for-1, double, 3 walks) each drove in 3 runs while Katheryn Hacuett went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Ashley Laxner (1-1) earned her first victory, allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7.
Crystal Lake South 3, Dundee-Crown 2: The Gators took a 3-0 lead through 4 innings of play and held off a late comeback to defeat Dundee-Crown in a Fox Valley Conference game. Liz Adams provided a double for the Gators, and Shannon McGinnis drove in a run. The Chargers were led by Amanda Eissler, who recorded 2 doubles, and Brittany Schultz (RBI). Hannah Mahoney earned the victory. She allowed 5 hits, struck out 14 and walked 7.
Streamwood drops 3 at Bison Slugfest: The Sabres (3-13) struggled offensively as they were defeated by Warren 15-5 in six innings, by Buffalo Grove 12-3 in five innings and by Vernon Hills 11-1 in six innings. Andria Barajas led the Sabres with her first varsity career home run and a double. Kaitlyn Hedger suffered losses in Games 1 and 3 despite 8 strikeouts in the two outings. Kellee Conquest suffered the loss in Game 2 after allowing 10 hits.
College softball
ECC sweeps: Elgin Community College improved to 15-14 with a doubleheader sweep of Harper by scores of 6-3 and 8-0. Jen Jordan was the winning pitcher and Ashley Frey went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI in Game 1. Diana Besser was the winning pitcher and Frey drove in 4 more runs in Game 2. ECC concludes the regular season today with a doubleheader against Black Hawk College at the Elgin Sports Complex and noon.
