Rolling Meadows overpowers Hoffman Estates
Rolling Meadows sophomore Matt Dennis was a real menace to Hoffman Estates in Thursday’s Mid-Suburban League baseball crossover.
Dennis improved to 4-0 on the mound and had 3 hits as Meadows (8-7, 2-4) needed only five innings to record a 12-2 victory.
The game was played at Meadows although Hoffman was the home team.
Dennis had 8 strikeouts and no walks. Matt Hendricks hit a 3-run homer and Eric Lowe had a 3-run double in an 8-run fifth inning that gave Meadows a 10-run lead.
Lowe also tripled and Hendricks doubled. Kevin Cwynar’s 3 hits included a double and Kyle Krzeski had 2 hits.
Drew Roesch had a 2-run double and Jimmy Ward had 2 hits for Hoffman (6-11, 1-4).
Kempema commits to Concordia: Schaumburg senior left-hander Kurt Kempema verbally committed Thursday to Concordia University in River Forest. Kempema is 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA, 13 strikeouts and 2 walks in 20 innings.
Former Schaumburg baseball and basketball player Adam Smith is in his first year as head coach at Concordia, which is 23-7 overall and tied for first in the Northern Athletics Conference at 12-2.
Schaumburg senior righty Ryan Hayes has also committed to Concordia.
Basketball
Maine West senior Odera Eneogwe, a Daily Herald All-Area pick, has committed to play for Roosevelt University.
The 6-foot-3 Eneogwe averaged 14.9 points and 9.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game for the Warriors.
Loebbaka to Carnegie-Mellon: Prospect senior and all-area pick Matt Loebbaka will play at Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh. The 6-6 Loebbaka averaged 11.2 points and 6.8 rebounds, blocked 37 shots and shot 67 percent from the field as the Knights won the Mid-Suburban League title.
Loebbaka will major in either chemical or biomedical engineering.
