Kane election results official
Dundee Unit Community Unit District 300 can canvass the April 5 vote results and swear in new trustees now that it has the official results of the election.
The school board was supposed to do so at a meeting Monday night, as were the school boards in Geneva District 304 and Kaneland District 302. Geneva and Dundee postponed their canvasses and board reorganizations, because the Kane County clerk hadn’t finished officially certifying the results.
The clerk had until the end of the day Tuesday to certify the results. The county elections director said there was a delay in receiving votes from other jurisdictions. Some local governments cross into Cook, Lake, McHenry, DeKalb, Kendall, Will and DuPage counties, as well as the area governed by the Aurora Election Commission.
The Geneva school board will canvass the vote and swear in trustees May 2.
The Kaneland board decided to go ahead and swear in trustees Monday night, preferring not to postpone at the last minute because the agenda contained several presentations that involved “a number of parents, students and community members. Changing that meeting at the last minute would have been very difficult,” Superintendent Jeff Schuler said.
In two close races in St. Charles, results remain the same as when unofficial totals were reported April 5. Kim Malay lost by two votes in her bid to become a 5th Ward alderman, and former alderman Art Lemke lost by six votes in his race in the 2nd Ward.
