Goranson, Elk Grove roll

Elk Grove 10, Buffalo Grove 0 (5 innings): Junior ace Dani Goranson (10-1) threw a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts and no walks as host Elk Grove (10-1, 3-0) saw nine of its players get at least 1 hit.

Goranson, Jessica Balzano, Megan Keegan and Krista Soesbe each went 2-for-3 for the Grens, while KC Dunne and Jessie Lazzara each had a hit for BG (6-4, 1-2).

Rolling Meadows 7, Wheeling 0: Kelly Keyzer (2-for-4, 3 RBI, double) and Sam Anderson (2-for-4, 2 RBI, double) led the offense for visiting Rolling Meadows (6-5, 1-2) which also received a double from Ellie Morgan.

Sophomore Sara Brunlieb (5-3) came in as a reliever and struck out five (2 hits) in the final five innings to get the win.

Taylor Schroeder, Sara Kern and Amanda Zamatta had the 3 hits for Wheeling (2-5, 0-3).

Prospect 12, Hersey 2 (5 innings): Prospect (4-6, 1-2) broke the game open against the visiting Huskies (2-8, 0-3) with 8 runs in the bottom of the third.

Michele Molini had 2 doubles in the inning and finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Michelle King also doubled in 2 runs in the inning.

Winning pitcher Hanna Lythberg doubled in the bottom of the fifth and Sam Mangrum scored the 12th run on a hit by Sarah Scaccia.

Lythberg (2-3) retired eight of the last nine batters she faced.

St. Viator 5, Carmel 2: St. Viator senior Julie Sweeney (4-7) struck out 10 for the win as the host Lions (5-7, 1-0) won their East Suburban Conference opener.

St. Viator’s offense was led by Alex Flasch (2 solo homers) and Sweeney (3-3, home run, double, 2 RBI). Flasch and Sweeney hit back-to-back home runs on two successive pitches in the third inning. Colleen Dunne stole home for the Lions’ final run.

The Lions’ defense was sparked by outfielder Tess Kaiser, who threw a runner out at the plate and had an assist on an out at third base.

Second baseman Jaclyn Koziol, who missed three weeks after suffering a concussion earlier in the season, returned to the diamond and was awarded the game ball for her defensive play (6 assists, 1 putout).

“We continue to come prepared to play each game and after a tough start (1-5),” said Lions coach Dan Twarog. “We are starting to play to our potential. It was good to get back to playing after being off since last Wednesday.”

Postponements: Fremd at Hoffman Estates was postponed to May 3 and Palatine at Schaumburg to May 5.
