Lakes’ softball team finally played a North Suburban Prairie Division game Tuesday, and the Eagles made it a successful one.
Lakes scored once in the sixth to tie it and twice in the seventh to beat host Vernon Hills 3-1.
Shannon Cooley earned the win, allowing only 1 hit while striking ut seven and walking one to best Megan Meline, who struck out 15.
Meline yielded only 3 hits, as the Cougars fell to 1-2 in NSC Prairie play.
Lake Zurich 10, Libertyville 0: Kelly Neises was 3-for-4 with 3 stolen bases and an RBI, and the Bears got 2 hits apiece from Maria Schroeder (4 runs, triple, 2 stolen bases, RBI), Kasey Roe (5 RBI) and Megan Mattera (RBI) in the North Suburban Lake game.
Mattera pitched a 6-inning complete game, striking out four, walking none and scattering 3 singles, including 2 by Toni Kintzel of the Wildcats.
Lake Zurich (6-3, 3-0) also got a double from Alli McGinnis.
Libertyville fell to 0-3 in the division.
Mundelein 12, Lake Forest 2: Justina Doll went 4-for-4 with 4 stolen bases and 4 RBI, Deanna Wise was 3-for-4 with 2 stolen bases, and the visiting Mustangs won their first game of the season.
Hillary Bunnelle did not allow an earned run in her 5 innings of work for Mundelein (1-5, 1-2 NSC Lake).
Zion-Benton 9, Stevenson 1: Emma Patrash was 2-for-4 for the host Patriots in their North Suburban Lake loss.
Stevenson fell to 5-2, 2-1.
CL Central 4, Grayslake Central 3: The Tigers cooled off the Rams in the Fox Valley Conference game.
Claire Brennan was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI for Grayslake Central, and Sarah Kuligowski went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Tayler Janda took the loss, even though she did not allow an earned run in her 7 innings.
