Fremd 18, Loyola 2: Trailing 2-0, visiting Fremd (3-0) erupted for 18 runs, including 10 in the top of the seventh in Glenview.
Vikes junior Rachel Doering (3-0) struck out 7 and gave up 3 hits in six innings while senior Stacey Hnytka pitched the seventh inning, giving up 1 hit.
Top hitters for the Vikings sophomore Michelle Mazur (2-for-5, 2 RBI, 1 run, double), Allie Gaeding (2-for-4, 2 runs), Sara Untiedt (2-for-2, 2 runs, 3 RBI, double), Brittany Ciura (2-for-3, RBI, 1 run, walk) and Kristine Herdegen (double).
Buffalo Grove 4, Lake Zurich 2: Sophomore catcher Amanda Salzman had a big game for the host Bison (2-1), as she went 2-for-3 with a home run and double.
“Amanda really stepped up,” said Bison first-year coach Jamie Paul. “Not only offensively, but she really did a good job behind the plate, making some nice blocks. She’s only a sophomore and really coming into her own. I’m really proud of her.”
Salzman caught a 7-hitter from senior Maria Dax (2-1), who struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Junior Jessie Lazzara also had multiple hits for the Bison, going 2-for-2 while Andrea DiPrima belted a home run.
KC Dunne and Dani Shapiro also had hits for Buffalo Grove.
St. Viator 19, Gordon Tech 0 (5 innings): Host St. Viator (1-4) won its first game with flawless fielding, 12 hits and a combined 1-hitter from Julie Sweeney (3 innings, 7 strikeouts) and Sam Hogan (2 innings, 4 strikeouts).
Making her first start, Michelle Presslak (2-3, 3 RBI) tripled home Kristen Cozzi in the first inning.
Kelly O’Brien had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI. Angelica Dickey (2-2), Hogan, and Sweeney each had 2 RBI.
Lions junior shortstop Alex Flasch (3 RBI, double) ended the game by making a diving stop over second base.
Then from her knees, she threw out a runner trying to score from second as catcher Tayler Lenart (2-2, 2 RBI, double) made the putout. Allyson Joyce also doubled for the Lions.
Leyden 3, Larkin 0: Morgan Maize (2-0) threw a 5-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks for host Leyden.
Top hitters for the Eagles were Maize (1-for-3, double, 2 RBI), Dana Sullivan (1-for-3, 1 RBI), Moira Quinlan (1-for-2) and Brigid Mackey (1-for-2). Amanda Moran scored 2 runs.
