Girls soccer/Fox Valley roundup

The Cary-Grove girls soccer team will play for the St. Francis Invite championship today after the Trojans notched two 1-0 wins on Tuesday.

Cary-Grove got a second-half goal from Lauren Harte off an assist from Megan Townsley to beat Glenbard West, then used an unassisted second-half goal from Jae Jay Usab to down St. Francis.

The Trojans (5-2) will take on Benet Academy at 11 a.m. today for the tournament championship at Olympic Park in Schaumburg.

Jacobs splits: Jacobs will play for fifth place in the St. Francis Invite today after splitting its games on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles got goals from Shannon Grady, Melanie Duda and Catie Sherman to beat Addison Trail 3-1, but then fell to Benet Academy 3-1 as Lauren Grady scored the Golden Eagles’ only goal. Lauren Grady and Margaret Rivera each had 2 assists for Jacobs (4-2). The Golden Eagles will play Fenwick at 9 a.m. today for fifth place.

South Elgin 7, East Aurora 0: Savanah Uveges and Lauren Vedrine scored 2 goals each as the Storm (3-1) rolled to an Upstate Eight crossover win. Jill Ellison, Janette Salas and Emily Young also had goals for South Elgin and Kaylie Latsonas recorded the shutout in goal with 4 saves. “The game was a complete team effort,” said Storm coach Tiffany Disher. “The goals were spread out and the assists were too. They were able to play the field and put the biscuit in the basket.”

Huntley 8, Woodstock North 0: Kelly Manczko and Aimee Wronski each scored hat tricks to lead Huntley (3-0) to an easy Fox Valley crossover win. Ashley Schoor also scored for the Red Raiders, whose first score was an own goal. Delaney Loprieno added 3 assists for Huntley and Bre Burry had 2. Kaytlyn Owens was in the net for the Red Raiders but wasn’t tested.
