COD Sonography Degree/Certificate Programs Receive Maximum Reaccreditation
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs recently awarded maximum five-year continuing accreditation for the College of DuPage Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography and Vascular Sonography certificates and the new AAS Sonography degree.
“Maximum reaccreditation for our Sonography programs from this highly regarded commission is a significant accomplishment,” said DMIS Coordinator Terrie Ciez, MS, RDMS, RDCS, RT, CNMT.
The College's Sonography and Vascular Sonography certificates have received continued accreditation since their inception in 1999 and 2005, respectively. With the addition of the AAS Sonography Degree Program in spring 2009, COD became the first college in Illinois to offer a degree program in Sonography that combined inclusive training in abdominal & superficial structures, obstetrical/gynecological, and vascular sonography modalities.
“It's nice to be first – it's even better to be recognized as one of the best,” said Ciez, who noted that the accreditation standards set by CAAHEP are extremely rigorous. “For us to meet and exceed the requirements established by (this organization) is a direct reflection of the diligence that has gone into the development and execution of these programs.”
The accreditation standards achieved by the College are established by CAAHEP in conjunction with the Joint Review Committee in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, American College of Radiology, American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, American Society of Echocardiography, American Society of Radiologic Technologists, Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Society for Vascular Surgery, and Society for Vascular Ultrasound.
