Chicago Philharmonic's 'Going for Baroque' April 17

Baroque specialist David Schrader will conduct the Chicago Philharmonic's third concert of the season at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17 at Pick-Staiger Hall in Evanston.

Celebrated organist, harpsichordist and Baroque specialist David Schrader will conduct the Chicago Philharmonic's third concert of the season. Schrader, who is well-known to devotees of Baroque music, will begin the evening's program conducting the Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 BWV 1046.

Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, it is widely regarded as among the finest musical compositions of the Baroque era.

Schrader will perform the Concerto for Harpsichord in D Minor for Keyboard, Strings and Continuo Wq. 23 by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, son of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Chicago Philharmonic Piccolo player Alyce Johnson will solo in the virtuoso Concerto for Piccolo and Strings in C Major RV 443 by Antonio Vivaldi.

Other program highlights include Concerto Grosso, op. 3, No. 4 by George Frederic Handel and the Suite in C Major, BWV 1066, by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Now in its 21st season as Chicago's other great orchestra, the Chicago Philharmonic is made up primarily of Lyric Opera Orchestra members and other top-tier professional musicians from the Chicago area.

Tickets for all Pick-Staiger concerts range from $20-$75. Student tickets are $10 at the door.
