Lake County boys basketball roundup

Lake Zurich's boys basketball team is getting hot at the right time.

After upsetting Zion-Benton last Friday to snap a six-game slide, the Bears defeated visiting Grant 59-45 in the two teams' regular-season finale Tuesday night.

Lake Zurich (7-19) led the North Suburban Conference crossover 13-10 after one quarter, 30-18 at halftime and 54-32 after three. The Bears led by as many as 28 points in the third.

On Senior Night, Bears coach Billy Pitcher started seniors Andy Cox, Mike Boyd, Colin Rathe, Tyler Every and Drake Orser. Each was taken out individually early in the fourth quarter, and each received a standing ovation.

Junior Mirko Grcic led with Lake Zurich with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Orser had 9 points and 8 boards.

Every and junior forward Justin Petersen each scored 8 points.

"We executed well and got some transition buckets to make our run in the third quarter," Pitcher said. "This was a great night for our seniors. I am very proud of them. Being my first group (as head coach), these guys will always be remembered and have a special place."

Grant (14-12), which lost its fifth game in a row, was led by Sean Wells' 15 points and Vic Muntu's 11.

Stevenson 63, Round Lake 38: Led by senior Ryan Chapman's 16 points on Senior Night, the Patriots won for the fifth time in their last six games.

Mike Fleming added 11 points for Stevenson (14-12), while Colby Cashaw contributed eight.

Round Lake junior Juddon Carter who scored his 1,000th point in the Panthers' previous game tallied 22 points, including five 3-pointers.

Round Lake fell to 6-20.

Grayslake North 75, Marengo 55: Teddy Ludwick scored 26 points and A.J. Fish added 19, as the host Knights won the nonconference game.

Grayslake North (18-7) also received 12 points from Zack Krupp, who scored all of his points on four 3-pointers.

Ludwick hit three 3s, while Fish made a pair.

Libertyville 67, Wauconda 41: Ryan Barth's 17 points paced the host Wildcats, who opened a 15-6 lead after one quarter and extended it to 31-14 by halftime.

Ellis Matthews (three 3-pointers) and Anthony Mack added 9 points apiece for Libertyville (11-15).

Wauconda (7-20) was paced by Kyle Ryan's 10 points and Austin Swenson's nine.

Lake Forest 68, Lakes 58: The visiting Eagles dropped their fifth straight to fall to 8-19.

Zion-Benton 51, Antioch 19: The Sequoits' lost the North Suburban crossover to drop to 4-24.
