Zion-Benton turns back another Stevenson challenge

The Stevenson and Zion-Benton boys basketball teams played another close North Suburban Lake Division game Tuesday night, this time in Zion.

And, like the last time in Lincolnshire, Zion-Benton prevailed.

Dondre Osborne scored 14 points, Owen Worthington added 12 and Tyrone Jackson had 10, as the Zee-Bees won 52-50 in overtime.

Stevenson's Kevin Earl hit a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left to tie the score at 49-49 and force OT.

Stevenson (8-9, 2-5) received a game- and season-high 17 points from Ryan Chapman, who sank five 3-pointers.

Troy Radtke added 11 points for the Patriots, while Earl finished with nine.

Grayslake Central 64, Woodstock North 39: Tim Abbott scored 13 points, and Kyle Shepard added 11 for the Rams, who won their sixth in a row.

The win improved Grayslake Central's record to 10-8 and 5-1 in the Fox Valley Fox Division. The Rams are tied for first place with Grayslake North.

Round Lake 63, Antioch 48: The Panthers' Juddon Carter scored 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Danny Uriostegui had 11 points, and Nick Lange added 9.

Round Lake improved to 5-12 overall and 3-4 in the North Suburban Prairie.

Antioch fell to 3-19, 0-8 with its 10th straight defeat.

North Chicago 91, Wauconda 56: Tyler Gick scored 18 points, and Matt Mead added 10 for Wauconda (6-14, 2-6 North Suburban Prairie).

Aaron Simpson and JayQuan McCloud scored 24 and 22 points, respectively, for North Chicago (7-1 NSC Prairie).

Glenbrook South 54, Wheeling 50: A 3-pointer by Corey McMahon with about 30 seconds left broke a tie and sent Wheeling (4-14) to its ninth straight loss in the nonconference game at the Titan Dome in Glenview.

Wheeling had used runs of 6-0 to lead 25-23 in the third quarter and 9-0 to go ahead 42-40 in the fourth quarter. Glenbrook South (8-11) led 50-47 but a 3-point play by Tyler Shapiro (15 points) with 1½ minutes left tied the game.

Ricky Schwind led Wheeling with 18 points and hit three 3s and Nick Boyd added 8 points.

"Our effort tonight was good," said Wheeling coach John Clancy. "The kids continue to compete and they came out with a lot of energy.

"It was the best we've played in a long time and that's a positive sign."

A turnover with 14 seconds left prevented Wheeling from getting a potential game-tying shot. Sophomore Justin Busiel had 19 points and Jack Ryan added 11 points for the Titans, who had lost five in a row since winning the consolation championship of the Elgin Holiday Tournament.
