Glenbard East to play for State Farm crown

Glenbard East will play for the large school championship at the State Farm Holiday Classic in Bloomington thanks to Wednesday's 49-41 semifinal win over Hononegah.

Johnny Hill again led the Rams (11-0) with 20 points, giving him 81 points in three wins. Zach Miller and Steve Kinney each scored 8 points.

Glenbard East will play Peoria Notre Dame, a semifinal winner over Rock Island, at 5:10 p.m. Thursday for the large school tournament championship.

Downers Grove South 75, York 60:

The Mustangs (10-3) beat the host Dukes (6-6) to advance to the title game at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. Downers South will face Lyons Twp. (10-1), an 86-62 winner over Brother Rice, in the final at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in Elmhurst. The Lions beat Downers South 74-69 on Dec. 18.

Glenbard South 56, Palatine 54:

The Raiders (4-6) pulled out their first victory at York's Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. Dusko Despot controlled the game with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Harks added 12 points including the game-winning three-point play with 11.3 seconds left for Glenbard South, which will play Maine South in final-round action at noon Thursday.

Naperville Central 55, Deerfield 46:

Trailing heading to the fourth quarter at Wheeling's Hardwood Classic, the Redhawks (4-8) rallied to victory with a 25-12 run. David Niggins scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Nick Czarnowski added 12 points and Mike Schremp pitched in 10 points. The Redhawks finish the tournament at 10:30 a.m. Thursday against Streamwood.

Lemont 55, Lisle 46:

Evan Bridwell dominated with 30 points as the host school beat the Lions (3-9) at the Lemont Christmas Classic. Chris Wray paced Lisle with 22 points and 11 rebounds, with Phil Palicka adding 11 points. Lisle faces Argo at 10 a.m. Thursday to close out its tournament play.

Stagg 42, Downers Grove North 39:

The Trojans (6-7) dropped a close one at the Lemont Christmas Classic despite 16 points from Ross Johnson and 10 points from D.J. Cienawa. Downers North plays its final tournament game against Evergreen Park at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Robinson 71, Montini 47:

T.J. Murray and Packey Barrett each scored 9 points at the St. Anthony-Effingham Tournament. Montini (3-7) finished its sixth-place stay with a 59-52 overtime loss to Cumberland, Jim Miller scoring 12 points and Kurtis Legacki adding 10 for the Broncos.
