Neuqua claims easy win

Neuqua Valley didn't give Willowbrook a chance to consider a possible upset bid in Monday's first round of the 36th annual Elgin Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats (10-0) raced out to a 21-point lead after a quarter and took care of Willowbrook 84-40 at Chesbrough Fieldhouse.

Sam Johnson scored a game-high 17 points and hit 3 of 12 3-pointers by Neuqua, which plays in today's 6:30 p.m. quarterfinal against Fremd, a 62-50 winner over Rockford Guilford.

Ryan McDermott also hit three 3s for the Wildcats, who led 45-13 at halftime. He finished with 11 points. Jabari Sandifer added 10 points, Alex Karkazis scored 9 points and Jim Stocki had 8 points.

Josh Joiner, Tyler Little and Kyle Pullia had 6 points apiece for Willowbrook (0-9), which plays Guilford at noon today.
