Bidelman, Kerber seek re-election in U-46

Three early filers will jockey for the first position on the ballot in Elgin Area School District U-46.

Maria Bidelman, Amy Kerber and Gary Percy all filed simultaneously for an open seat on the U-46 school board when the filing period opened this morning at 7:30 a.m.

Bidelman and Kerber, both Elgin residents, are one-term incumbents. Percy is the vice chairman of the Citizens' Advisory Council.

So far, the race for four, 4-year terms on the school board is uncontested. Board President Ken Kaczynski announced last week he would not seek re-election so he could spend more time on his business.

Karen Carney, a former board president first elected in 1991, is also up for re-election.

The filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 20. A lottery will be held to determine the first name on the ballot.
