Aurora University offers Basic Skills Test prep

Aurora University will host review sessions in December to prepare students for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test. The public is invited to the series sponsored by the AU College of Education. Admission is free to AU students and alumni, and $25 for others.

The review schedule is:

9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 4: Writing will be reviewed in Room 320 in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.

11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4: Language arts will be reviewed in Room 320 in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.

9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 11: Reading comprehension will be reviewed in Computer Lab 102 in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.

11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 11: Math I (geometry, statistics, graphing, combined skills) and Math II (word problems, proportions, pre-algebra skills, algebra and logic) will be reviewed in Computer Lab 102 in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.

Education and social work majors who plan to work in public school systems are required to pass the five-hour Basic Skills Test to be certified.

Reviews include instruction, practice problems and handout materials. The goal of the sessions is to build confidence and reduce anxiety.

Workshop attendees are requested to bring to review sessions the online Basic Skills Test study guide on the Illinois Certification Testing System website at www.icts.nesinc.com.

Also available on the ICTS website are study guides for other tests administered through ICTS and a practice test to prepare for the Basic Skills Test.
