Huntley Unit D158 third-graders get new dictionaries

There are some savvier wordsmiths working around the halls of Martin, Conley and Leggee elementary schools in Huntley Unit District 158 thanks to a generous donation from the Huntley Rotary Club.

Last week, the club donated dictionaries to all third-grade students in the district. Club members distributed the dictionaries at an assembly at each school. Thom Palmer, of the Huntley Park District, addressed the students.

Students and teachers alike eagerly await the annual event, which is in its sixth year. The young students dive into the dictionaries to explore the contents.

An annual fundraiser, and matching funds from Rotary International, enables the Huntley Rotary Club to purchase the dictionaries.

Donate food: The Grafton Township Food Pantry is seeking donations for its Share the Holiday Spirit. A $15 contribution will provide a family of four a turkey dinner.

In addition to monetary contributions, the food pantry is also accepting nonperishable food items, paper goods and household cleaning supplies. Gift cards in any denomination are also welcome.

For a meaningful gift to friends and family, the Grafton Township Food Pantry has memorial cards available for sale. For each $1 donated, the food pantry has a $4 buying capacity at the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

If you're interested in playing Santa for a family in need this holiday season, ask the food pantry for a profile on a local family and also a gift wish list. Gifts should not be wrapped and will be given to the family anonymously.

Medicare forums: Centegra Health Systems in Crystal Lake and McHenry will host a series of forums on Medicare Part D annual enrollment. The annual enrollment period runs through Dec. 31.

The sessions will cover questions ranging from prescription coverage and costs.

Sessions are as follows:

Ÿ 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 11, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry, 4201 Medical Center Drive, McHenry.

Ÿ 8 a.m. to noon Saturday Dec. 11, at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock, 3701 Doty Road, Woodstock.
