Scouting Wheaton Warrenville South boys basketball

WW South

Coach: Mike Healy.

Last year: 20-8, 10-4, second in DuPage Valley Conference; lost 56-47 to Glenbard East in Class 4A Willowbrook regional final.

Top players: Reilly O'Toole, sr., G; Jason Schuman, sr., F; Travis Kern, sr., G; Kevin Bridges, sr., G; Zack Jadzak, sr., F; Gene Baerwolf, sr., G; Ryan Crowe, sr., G; Tim Zyburt, jr., F; Matt Simpson, jr., F; Nate Fuster, sr., G.

Scouting report: The Tigers again will feel the football effect. Ten players, the most in Healy's nine years at the helm, will be delayed in joining the team while they pursue a state football title. Seven sophomores and freshmen are up to temporarily fill the roster. The Tigers' top three returners O'Toole, Schuman and Kern are among that list of players. O'Toole averaged 15 points and hit 54 3-pointers from the point while 6-foot-6 Schuman and Kern, who hit 39 3s, combined for 13 points a game. The Tigers averaged seven 3s a game last year, and they'll be potent once again. "When you've got great kids who are willing to work, that's a great starting point," said Healy, who will step down at the end of the season to become WW South's athletic director.
