Coach: Josh Virostko (second year, 13-15; eighth overall, 78-114).

Last year: 13-15, 4-6, tied for seventh in the Upstate Eight Conference; lost 52-38 to Glenbrook North in the Class 4A Addison Trail regional final.

Top players: Zach Cooper, sr., F-C; Eric Eicholtz, sr., G; Scott Karlis, jr., C; Kevin Spejcher, jr., F; Dominique Spencer, jr., F; Zack Wagner, jr., C; Nick Zanghi, jr., G.

Scouting report: Two seniors -- Eicholtz and Cooper, who averaged 5.8 points and 5.9 rebounds and led the Lancers with 21 blocks -- means Lake Park must mature to compete in a tough UEC Valley Division. With All-Conference guard Matt Drufke graduated the scoring mantle falls to 6-3 Spencer, who led Lake Park at 12.2 points plus 4.9 rebounds. He's an inside-outside type who will now draw foes' top defender and will also help former soph star Eicholtz and Zanghi handle the ball. The 6-5 Wagner and 6-3 Spejcher, a two-time state high jump qualifier, give Lake Park decent size. "Handling pressure and our guard play are probably going to be the keys for us," Virostko said.
