Stotts, Hoffman Estates net season-opening win
Hoffman Estate's Jada Stotts is going to Austin Peay to play volleyball.
But she plays another sport quite well, too.
Stotts scored a game-high 17 points for the Hawks girls basketball team in its season-opening 55-31 victory over Lake Park in the Elk Grove-Lake Park-Hoffman Estates tourney.
Sophomore Becca Stoczynski added 10 points and junior Mary Pettit 8 for coach Mike Nocella's Hawks, who resume play in the tourney on Thursday against Northside Prep at 7 p.m.
Elk Grove 58, Harlan 27: Freshman forward Melissa Solorio (12 points), sophomore Kelly Naughton (12 points) and senior Maggie Fries (9) led Elk Grove to the victory in the Elk Grove-Lake Park-Hofman Estates tourney.
Naughton connected for 3 3-pointers while Fries had 1. The Grens play on their home floor Thursday against Jefferson at 7 p.m.
Rolling Meadows 44, Carmel 33: Freshman Jacqueline Kemph made her varsity in fine fashion with a game-high 15 points to lead the Mustangs to their seasoning-opening win in the Mundelein tourney.
Sophomore Morgan Keller added 10 and junior Ann Marie Lynch 8 for the Mustangs.
Schaumburg 70, Proviso West 44: Schaumburg began its own tourney on a winning note as senior guard Jennifer Pomagier scored a game-high 17 points.
Senior Rachel Steuhm (3 3-pointers), junior Kelly Skorczewski and junior Jenna Gerber each added 15 points for the Saxons.
Libertyville 54, Prospect 37: Senior guard Winans scored 10 points with a pair of 3-pointers to lead the Knights in their season opener. Marissa Pettenuzzo and Ashley Wabik added 6 points apiece for the hosts, who begin defense of their Lyons tourney title on Friday.
Fenton 48, Leyden 39: Senior forward Tashemia McKinney (13 points) and senior guard Moira Quinlan (8) led the Eagles in their season-opener in the Fenton tourney.
