Candidate labels humor inappropriate

Richard Hamen, Republican candidate for the Illinois House District 57 seat, is accusing his opponent's campaign manager of practicing stereotyping and racial politics in the name of humor.

Trevor Montgomery, campaign manager for State Rep. Elaine Nekritz of Northbrook, posted a remark on his Facebook page alluding to an error that has some ballots listing Rich Whitney, the Green Party candidate for governor, as “Rich Whitey.”

Montgomery reportedly wrote that the name would be more appropriate for a Republican.

Hamen, of Prospect Heights, said his party “has a rich history of working with everybody. The remark is inappropriate and signifies what's going wrong in politics today.”

Nekritz said she had not seen the remark and could not act until she had.
