Cary-Grove moves on

The Cary-Grove boys soccer team won its 14th straight match Tuesday night, downing Barrington 1-0 in the semifinals of the Class 4A Grant regional.

The Trojans (15-2-1) will take on Round Lake at 2 p.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Jon Guay's second half goal off an assist from Jacob Cunningham was the game-winner for Cary-Grove. Tom Breen had 6 saves in goal for the Trojans.

“I can't say enough about our players, said Cary-Grove coach Mark Olson. “A lot of credit to Barrington because of their great speed and ability. They were the toughest team we've faced and we played to play through some injuries.

Jacobs 1, Huntley 0: A first-half goal from John Kowalski off an assist from Matt Ehrhardt lifted Jacobs (17-5) to a semifinal win in the Class 3A Jacobs regional. AJ Pfatschbacher had 6 saves in goal for the Golden Eagles and Kevin Montelongo made 7 saves for Huntley (10-11-1). Jacobs will play Crystal Lake South at 5 p.m. Friday for the regional title.

CL South 3, McHenry 1: Alex Tapia scored twice and Trevor Bittenbender added a goal to lead the Gators (20-1-2) to a win in the Class 3A Jacobs regional semifinals. Charlie Oliver had 2 assists for CLS, with Tapia and Jacob Stock adding one each. Dave Walsh made 3 saves in goal for the Gators, who take on Jacobs at 5 p.m. Friday for the regional title.

Round Lake 6, Dundee-Crown 4: Juan Lopez scored twice and Jesus Escontrias and Jose Angeles once each but D-C (13-8-2) couldn't stop Round Lake in the semifinals of the Class 3A Grant regional. Scott Nowicke had 7 saves in goal for Dundee-Crown.

Hampshire 2, Marengo 1: Jason Bishop and Ismael Morales each scored goals and Geza Kogler had both assists as the Whip-Purs (18-6-1) won in the semifinals of their own Class 2A regional. Marcus Quick made 8 saves in goal for Hampshire, which will play Marian Central at 5 p.m. Saturday in the regional title match.
