O'Toole tries to lock in perfection

After Friday's showdown of unbeatens between Wheaton Warrenville South and Glenbard North, Tigers coach Ron Muhitch was jokingly asked if he considered benching quarterback Reilly O'Toole when he threw incomplete passes on his first two attempts.

To paraphrase the answer, no chance.

"No, I don't bench him for that," Muhitch said with a laugh. "But in my mind, I have a little trouble when the guy that's been so perfect the last two weeks misses."

It was certainly odd to see the University of Illinois-bound quarterback miss on his first two attempts. In O'Toole's prior two games he was an incredible 22 of 24 passing for 431 yards, 8 touchdowns and no interceptions. O'Toole's 13 of 20 effort for 193 yards and 3 touchdowns was strong enough for a 49-6 DuPage Valley Conference romp over Glenbard North, but his expectation level has skyrocketed because of his past numbers.

Always the perfectionist, O'Toole was a harsh critic of himself after Friday's game.

"Our receivers were open and I missed a couple, but later on in the game they made some great plays to help me out," O'Toole said. "We didn't get off to a good start, and that was my bad."
