CL South's Collard 3rd at FVC meet

Marianne Collard's realistic goal was to finish second in the Fox Valley Conference.

The Crystal Lake South senior finished one spot short of her goal.

Behind Woodstock sisters Kayla and Maura Beattie who finished 1-2, Collard was third with a 3-mile time of 17:07.3 Saturday at the Fox Valley Conference meet at McHenry Township Park in Johnsburg.

Collard, who is considering running at Division I schools Cornell, Kansas State and Vermont, was still happy with her effort.

“I started out a little too fast and ran out of gas, said Collard. “I am still happy with my finish and I came away without any injuries. I feel I am ready for the regionals next week.

Crystal Lake Central, which easily raced to the conference team title with 53 points, was 50 points ahead of second place Huntley (103).

The Red Raiders' top runner was Haylee Loprieno with a 12th place finish. Sara Scarbro was 15th, followed by Emily Kahl (22nd), Beth Parks (26th) and Delaney Loprieno (28th).

Dundee-Crown finished third with a score of 116. The Chargers had 3 runners in the Top 25. They included Claire Himmel (13th), Jade Franz (18th) and Katie Gross (20th). The rest of the scorers for D-C were Monique Robinson (31st) and Rebecca Libricz (34th).

Jacobs, with a fifth place finish, scored 133 points. The Golden Eagles' top performer was Sam Baran with a 16th place finish. Baran was followed by Kayla Guilano, who was 19th.

Cary-Grove was 7 points behind Jacobs with 140 points. The sixth place Trojans were led by Megan Cummings, who cracked the Top 10 with a sixth-place finish. The Trojans' second runner to finish was Sarah England, who was 30th.

Crystal Lake South was eighth with 205 points. Nina Wajrowski was behind Collard with a 42nd place finish.

Grayslake Central placed ninth with 231 points. The Rams were paced by Karina Gomez with a 14th place finish.

Grayslake North, 12th with 325 points, got a 50th place finish from Jill Petracek.

BNC Meet: Hampshire's Cassie Kruse was the individual champion and Burlington Central took third as a team at the Big Nothern Conference meet. Kruse completed the course in 16:22, well ahead of the 16:57 posted by Marengo's Katie Adams. Markelle Turk took fourth place to lead Burlington Central, which scored 87 points. Marengo won the meet with 39 and Byron was second at 75. Katie Puccio (9th place) was also all-conference for Burlington Central. Heidi Zipoy (22nd), Katie Bush (27th) and Mykayla Evans (30th) also scored for the Rockets.

NAC Meet: Westminster Christian's Brittany Booth finished in 15th place at the Northeast Athletic Conference meet in a time of 22:43.
