CL Central claims FVC title
Crystal Lake Central claimed the Fox Valley Conference girls tennis championship Saturday by scoring 88 points in the conference meet held at Woodstock North.
The Tigers, who entered the FVC meet with 76 points from regular-season duals, finished with 164 points to win the title. Jacobs (150) was second, followed by Crystal Lake South (149), Prairie Ridge (135), Cary-Grove (121), Grayslake Central (86) and Huntley (79).
Kelly Poggensee-Wei of Grayslake North won the No. 1 singles competition by rallying for a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-1 victory over Nelle Youel of Crystal Lake Central. Marisa Thome of CL South finished third by outlasting Sydney Nowak from Jacobs, 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-3.
CL Central's Jenna Wallace defeated CL South's Kelsey Laktash for the No. 2 singles title, 6-1, 7-6. CL South's Julia Thome won the No. 3 singles competition by sweeping Alina Zabolotico of Jacobs, 6-2, 6-1.
The Prairie Ridge duo of Alison Murphy and Carolyn Heurth took home the No. 1 doubles crown with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Crystal Lake South's Abbey Kolarczyk and Rachel Siemon. CL Central won titles at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, but Jacobs won the No. 4 doubles final when Alex Buettner and Becky Oberhauser swept CL Central's Jordan Cane and Bailey Murphy, 7-6, 6-4.
