Barrington, BG take tourney lead

The Mid-Suburban League girls tennis tournament, which began Thursday, resumed play with flights at Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and Conant on Friday.

Barrington and Buffalo Grove led all schools, sending multiple teams into Saturday's semifinals.

“I'm happy where we're at right now, said Buffalo Grove coach Kevin Schrammel. “In order to win conference, we pretty much had to send everyone to the finals. “

“We need to make noise (Saturday) to pick up ground we lost. I am interested in seeing (Nell Boyd), who lost to (Schaumburg's) Monica Linn in the regular season, and our second doubles team, who lost to Conant in the regular season.

In the No. 1 singles bracket, Barrington sent senior Kristy Dodge through to the semifinals after her bye round and a 6-0, 6-0 win against Wheeling's Dana Bitout in the second round.

Dodge will face off against Hoffman Estates freshman Courtney Lang, who earned a bye in the first round and defeated Prospect No. 1 singles player Maggie Partridge 6-3, 6-0 in the second round.

“I was making a lot of mistakes in the beginning, Lang said of her match against Partridge. “I've got to be aggressive. I've heard about Kristy Dodge and I know she's good.

In the other No. 1 singles semifinal, Buffalo Grove's Boyd, who defeated Hersey's Jen Hall 6-1, 6-3, will play Schaumburg's Linn, who registered a victory against second-round Conant opponent Taylor Graham 6-0, 6-0.

Barrington and Buffalo Grove both saw their No. 1 double teams advance to the semifinals. Their opponents' matches were not decided by press time.

Barrington's No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Zoe Kaziurak and freshman Heather Ciskowski were very happy with 6-0, 6-1 win against Hersey's doubles team

“This gives us a good victory moving forward, Ciskowski said. “We need to focus on the positives that we did in practice. It's very easy for us to play together.

The No. 2 doubles bracket features Rolling Meadows, Barrington, Buffalo Grove and Conant teams in their semis.

In the No. 2 singles bracket, the semifinal survivors are Prospect's Mary Clare Rosemeyer (7-6 (9-7), 6-1 against Conant's Marie Alvandi), Hoffman's Amruth Bhatt (6-3, 6-3 over Fremd's Maggie Lundholm), Buffalo Grove's Allie Wieland (6-3, 6-1 against Wheeling's Natalie Tanas) and Barrington's Hailey Mallon (6-2, 6-0 against Rolling Meadow's Brittany Khaye).

“I have mixed reactions about our performance, said Rolling Meadows coach Jim Gumz. “This is good for sectionals moving forward. We have a lot of people in our own sectional that we've played in conference.

“It's not that we weren't competitive, we just couldn't win the close ones. We'll see what we can do tomorrow.

The tournament resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday.
