Hot Cereal in the Slow Cooker

¼ cup cracked wheat #190; cup "old-fashioned" (not quick-cooking or instant) rolled oats 3 cups apple juice or water #188; cup golden or regular raisins, dried cranberries or dried cherries 1 tart apple, grated #189; teaspoon ground cinnamon Pinch ground nutmeg Pinch salt Maple syrup, brown sugar or honey, optional Milk, optional Combine cracked wheat, rolled oats, apple juice (or water), dried fruit, grated apple, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in the insert of a 2- to 3-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours. Serve with maple syrup, brown sugar or honey and milk if desired. Serves three to four. Marialisa Calta
