Bartlett's Schneider champ at Flyin' Hawk
Bartlett senior Alyssa Schneider had a little extra motivation Saturday morning.
After struggling with an iron deficiency last season, Schneider wanted to be what she was as sophomore - the Bartlett Flyin' Hawk Invitational winner. She accomplished that at Sunrise Park.
Schneider finished the 3-mile run in 17:39.3 to capture her second title at the event, beating Crystal Lake South's Mariaane Collard by 1.6 seconds.
"I won this sophomore year. I just wanted to come back and take it again so bad," Schneider said. "I wouldn't have changed anything. That's exactly how I want to run my race."
Schneider and Collard ran ahead of the pack for most of the race until Schaumburg's Collette Falsey caught up to them. Schneider pulled ahead in the final quarter mile.
With the postseason four weeks away, Schneider is pleased with her form.
"I'm feeling good," Schneider said. "I'm a lot healthier that last year so it's giving me a lot of confidence."
Falsey (17:41.8) and teammate Karen Lewiewicz (17:56.3) finished third and fourth as the Saxons captured the team title with 36 points. Brittany Petrey (eighth, 18:49.7), Hannah Coombs (ninth, 18:50.3) and Kelsey Steenstrup (12th, 18:51.2) also scored for the Saxons.
"It's our homecoming week and we just wanted to get through this week," Schaumburg coach Jon Macnider said. "They are a veteran group. They reacted to what happened in the race and did a nice job together."
St. Charles North finished second with 75 points. Sydney Stuenkel (sixth, 18:30.8) and Erica Bauerbach (seventh, 18:39.1) led the way for the North Stars.
Bartlett took third with 83. Nicole Watkins finished fifth in 18:25.6 for the Hawks. Huntley was fourth and Jacobs fifth in the 12-team field.
