Vernon Hills 2, Grayslake Central 1: The Cougars opened their own tournament on a high note, as they notched their first win of the season.
Vernon Hills sophomore Matt Tabrizi opened the scoring in the seventh minute, heading in freshman Jeremy Cohen's corner kick.
Sophomore Evan Borden scored the winning goal. Senior keeper Andy Clark made 6 saves for Vernon Hills (1-7-1).
Warren 2, Carmel 1: Auner Solis had both goals for the Blue Devils, scoring in the 38th and 71st minutes.
Warren (6-4-2) got a 12-save effort from keeper Brady Walsh. Brandon Brown and Daniel Szczepanek had assists for the Blue Devils.
