Saturday's Fox Valley roundup

At DeKalb: Hampshire went 2-3 at the DeKalb tournament, losing to McHenry (25-20, 25-15), Zion-Benton (25-14, 25-21) and DeKalb (25-23, 25-16) before beating Elgin 25-15, 25-11 and West Carroll 27-25, 25-20. Alex Dumoulin had 34 kills on the day for the Whip-Purs (5-7) and Tia Incapreo had 59 digs. Leigh-Anne Libby had 87 assists for the Whips.

Elgin went 0-5 in the tournament. Heather Gawaluck had 22 assists for the Maroons with Rahcel Roth adding 16 digs and Briana Hamilton 8 kills.

At Bartlett: Bartlett finished second at its own tournament, beating Kaneland, Belvidere North, Shepard and Dundee-Crown before losing to West Chicago 25-13, 22-25, 15-7 in the championship match. Jacki Gulczynski had 36 kills, 11 aces and 8 blocks on the day to lead the Hawks, while Lauren Hartford added 21 kills and 20 digs. Kelly Kraft had 26 kills and 29 digs and Tori Burke contributed 7 aces and 95 assists as well as 38 digs.

Alexa Shemanske had 15 kills and Lauren Mosher 10 for Dundee-Crown, which went 0-4 in the tournament and is now 2-7 for the season.

At Effingham: St. Edward went 2-3 at the ultra-tough Crossroads Classic in Effingham. The Green Wave (2-5) lost to Belleville Althoff, Owensboro Catolic of Kentucky and Toledo Cumberland and beat Stewardson-Strasburg and Effingham. Anne Kelly (102 assists, 3 blocks), Margie Haggenjos (30 digs), Ana Peterson (28 digs), Katie Ayello (72 digs, 9 aces, 39 points), Kelly Tripicchio (14 kills), Sarah Norman (35 kills, 27 digs), Callie Johnson (18 kills, 11 blocks), Stephanie Igielski (32 kills, 18 blocks) and Alex Lee (11 kills) led the Green Wave.

At Christian Liberty: Westminster Christian (6-6) took third place at the Christian Liberty tournament with a 3-2 record. The Warriors defeated Francis Parker, Elgin Academy and Willows and lost to Christian Liberty and Lake Forest Academy. Katie Surratt (47 assists, 6 kills, 6 aces), Hannah Graves (23 kills, 31 assists, 4 aces, 13 digs), Whitney VandenBos (32 digs, 20 aces, 52 good passes) and Emily Bickford (16 kills, 4 blocks, 6 aces) led the Westminster attack.
