Bartlett, Larkin to meet in Pepsi Showdown quarterfinals

The quarterfinals of the Pepsi Showdown boys soccer tournament will have some local flavor to them this coming week.

Bartlett beat Mount Carmel 1-0 and Larkin downed Providence 5-1 Saturday to set up a quarterfinal meeting between the Hawks and Royals at Millennium Field in Streamwood on Thursday. Game time is to be determined.

Bartlett 1, Mount Carmel 0: Tony Paredes' first-half goal off an assist from Carmello Abate was all the Hawks (5-0) needed to advance in the Pepsi Showdown. Alex Busch made 6 saves in goal for Bartlett.

"So far we're happy as a team to have gotten this far," said Bartlett coach Ben Beary. "We're eager for our next game against Larkin."

Larkin 5, Providence 1: Erik Rodriguez scored twice, while Josue Medina, Ivan Maldonado and Michel Lopez each had single goals to lead the Royals (6-1-1) into the Pepsi quarterfinals. Rodriguez also had 2 assists, while Medina and Manny Aguilar each added an assist. Santiago Guerrero had 2 saves in goal for Larkin.

Glenbrook South 2, Streamwood 1: The Sabres (1-11) remained winless in the Pepsi Showdown with this loss. Victor Aguilar had Streamwood's goal off an assist from Mario Rodriguez. Jose Resendiz made 8 saves in goal for the Sabres.

Burlington Central 6, Winnebago 0: Alexis Camarena scored 4 goals and had an assist as the Rockets (7-1-0) rolled to an easy Big Northern crossover win. Paolo Sespene and Omar Awad also scored for BC. Michael Parker and Riley Jensen each had 1 save in goal.

Hampshire 7, Westminster Christian 2: Ismael Morales had a goal and 2 assists and Geza Kogler scored 2 goals to lead Hampshire (4-4-1) to a nonconference win. Victor Miranda, Ricky Parada, Tyler Kelly and Jason Bishop also scored for the Whip-Purs, who got 7 saves in goal from Marcus Quick. Josh Beachler scored both of Westminster's goals.

CL South 3, Belvidere 0: Trevor Bittenbender, Charlie Oliver and Mike Hernandez scored goals for the Gators (6-1-1) in this nonconference win. Adam Gatza, Hernandez and Oliver each had assists and David Walsh made 4 saves in goal.
